Non-Traditional Wedding Ideas We LOVE

There are hundreds of “rules” and “traditions” when it comes to weddings. Some couples decide to stick to tradition- which is totally fantastic. But, we know some couples are interested in going a little less traditional and a little more them.

Get Ready Together

If you’re foregoing a wedding party, we totally recommend getting ready together! What an intimate and special time to spend together. You can even help each other get dressed- fasten buttons, zip up dresses, tie ties etc. Something that gets forgotten on wedding day is intimate time for the couple and this is a great way to include that. If you opt for this, we definitely suggest having your photographer present!

Flower men and flower nannies

If you want a kid free wedding (which we are huge supporters of) or if you just aren’t close to any kids, you can totally have adults in the roles typically reserved for children. Have your granny as a flower girl or have your brother as a flower guy- there are no rules.

Flip Cocktail Hour

This only works if you’re doing a first look, have a smaller guest count (think around 50) and don’t mind guests seeing you before the ceremony. Greet guests and offer apps and drinks upon their arrival BEFORE the ceremony. This is something we often will do if we are avoiding rain or waiting for a storm to pass. Then right after your ceremony you begin dinner.

Irish Goodbye

Remember when I said weddings don’t have rules? I really believe that. If you want to leave quietly and sneak off to your hotel or your honeymoon but allow your guests to continue to party, do it. From one introvert to another- we get it.

Table Dash

This is a favorite of ours. Your DJ plays a song and while that song plays you and your new spouse bounce from each table to get a picture. It’s super fun, guests have a blast.

Private Dinner

People will tell you that you don’t eat on your wedding day. We promise, if you’re one of our couples, we make sure you eat. BUT having a private dinner with just the two of you definitely helps to ensure you will eat! It also gives a moment for you to breathe and soak in the day together. We are huge fans of prioritizing time for the two of you and this does exactly that.

There’s probably fifty other unique wedding ideas we could share! Just remember- it’s YOUR day and about you and your partner. If you don’t want to toss a bouquet or throw a garter, you don’t have to. Just enjoy yourself and do what makes you happy, that’s the only rule in our book.
